Carles Puyol’s contract extension could see Robinho move put on hold

British newspaper The Daily Mail has today reported that the proposed formalisation of Barcelona defender and Spanish International Carles Puyol(31) contract extension has put a dagger in the hopes of English Premier League side and moneybags Manchester City signing the Barcelona Captain.

Though Manchester City’s first choice for a reinforcement for their backlines was Chelsea defender John Terry(28), Puyol was another player mooted as a possible transfer target with Robinho going the other way to the Camp Nou in January.

With Barcelona stiker and French International Thierry Henry(31) becoming prone to injury, Barcelona’s coach Pep Guardiola is said to have insisted on securing the services of Robinho during the January transfer window in a fee touted as being around £15 million (€16.5 million.)
